As spring approaches, the Salvation Army Stafford is buzzing with anticipation as it prepares for its next Salvation Army twilight market.
Save the date for Friday, 6 September, when the Spring Market will offer visitors great deals on designer goods and the chance to see an inspiring work of art take shape.
Camille Kaukereit, manager of the store, said last year’s twilight market was so successful they decided to make it an annual event.
“We like the idea of bringing the Salvation Army and community together and having a market is a great way to do this,” Camille said.
“In addition to the local community market stalls, the 50% off storewide sale, high-end designer release, food trucks and entertainment, we will also have local artist Steven Falco from Procreativ painting a mural on the wall in the Salvation Army car park.”
Steven, known for his vibrant oil paintings and his large murals across Brisbane, said he began doing art as a kid and never really stopped.
“I started out in graffiti, which taught me how to use spray paint and work on a large scale,” he said. “I then moved into fine art, combining graffiti with traditional painting techniques.
“At the moment, I enjoy working in realism. I paint Australiana and everyday subjects, sometimes adding some fantasy elements.
A Mural with a Message
For the Spring Market mural, Steven said he planned to create something nature-based centred around the theme of ‘giving’.
“I will create a design using my own photographs and illustrations,” he said. “I want to create something unique and inspiring that is for everyone.”
Camille said Steven’s presence at the market, along with the addition of live music, would attract even more attendees.
“Every time we have a high-end designer release and 50% off sale, we get people lined up at the door, so I believe this will (also) be a drawcard,” she said.
“We will also have additional market stalls showcasing what the Salvation Army Stafford church community offers, including the weekly craft group, sewing group, exercise class, drive for life and cake stalls.”
Money raised from the Spring Market will go back into supporting programs with the Salvation Army Stafford.
