Community consultation for the 7th Brigade Park upgrade project in Chermside has now closed, with Brisbane City Council thanking locals for contributing their ideas on how the popular green space can evolve to better serve the growing neighbourhood.
Council sought feedback on potential improvements to the expansive 73-hectare park, focusing on informal sport spaces and off-road cycling amenities.
Chair for Environment, Parks and Sustainability, Tracy Davis, said that Brisbane was Australia’s lifestyle capital and the Council was “delivering more to see and do in our suburbs”.
“We received 360 submissions from residents about how we can make 7th Brigade Park even better, and we really want to thank them for their valuable input,” Cr Davis said.
“Residents have loved upgrades at parks like Grinstead Park and Colmslie Beach Reserve and we want to bring that same approach and creativity to 7th Brigade Park.”
Located at 375 Hamilton Road and surrounded by Chermside, Geebung and Aspley, 7th Brigade Park has long been valued for its open space and recreational potential.
As part of the consultation phase, residents were invited to review an Opportunities Map and share their preferences on features such as improved turf and line markings for casual sports like soccer, touch football, rugby and Aussie rules, as well as locations for possible multi-use cycling tracks, skills areas, jumps or a pump track.
Feedback was accepted through an online survey and at pop-up information kiosks.
Next Steps for the Upgrade Project
Council will now consider the community’s input alongside technical studies and planning requirements as it develops a draft concept plan.
The next project stage will see a draft concept plan shared with the community in early 2026, with a finalised plan expected by mid-2026.
