A free event showcasing retirement communities and resorts will be held this month for people exploring their retirement living options.
The Brisbane North Retirement Village and Resort Expo, hosted by Dorsal Media, will be held on Sunday, 25 October and Monday, 26 October at Kedron-Wavell. The expo will give visitors the opportunity to ask questions and gather information about a range of retirement living communities, including over-50s resorts, retirement villages offering independent living and options providing assisted or specialist care.
Dorsal Media director Dorothy Willoughby said the event differed from other seniors’ expos because of its unique focus on retirement communities and resorts.
“Our aim is to make it as easy as we can for retirees to access information about the different retirement communities,” Dorothy said.
“It’s a very big (and scary) decision to downsize from the house that you have lived in for maybe 30 years, but we know retirees who – having done their research and finding their ideal community – thrive.”
Visitors will be able to discuss their retirement preferences directly with industry representatives and learn more about what retirement living entails.
Dorothy said buying into a retirement village or resort should be viewed as a lifestyle investment rather than a real estate investment, with a focus on freedom, independence and companionship.
“Having access to different social and physical activities on a daily basis, residents visit their GP less often, go into aged care later than those still in their homes and most importantly, are generally happier with their lives,” she said.
