In a world where we can message someone on the other side of the globe in seconds, it’s surprising that so many people are feeling increasingly isolated. Despite being more digitally connected than ever, genuine human connection has become harder to find, and loneliness is now recognised as a growing issue affecting people of all ages.
Whether you’re a busy parent juggling family life, a retiree living alone, someone new to the area or simply navigating a challenging season, having a supportive community around you can make an enormous difference.
Research continues to show that meaningful social connections can improve both our mental and physical wellbeing. Feeling part of a community can reduce stress, build resilience and provide a sense of purpose. Sometimes, knowing there is someone to celebrate life’s milestones or simply share a cup of tea with is exactly what we need.
“People are created for relationship,” says Father Daniel of All Saints Anglican Church, Chermside. “We all long to know that we belong somewhere and that we are valued. Genuine community reminds us that we don’t have to face life’s joys or challenges on our own.”
Finding Belonging Through Local Community

Building those connections doesn’t have to be complicated. Joining a local group, volunteering, attending community events or simply taking the time to get to know your neighbours can all help create lasting friendships. Small moments of connection often grow into meaningful relationships over time.
For more than 100 years, All Saints Anglican Church has been helping people find that sense of belonging. Alongside its regular worship services, the church offers a range of community initiatives including a free Soup Kitchen, Little Saints Playgroup for young families, the monthly 501 Club lunch and opportunities to volunteer and connect with others.
While some people first come looking for practical support or a friendly face, many discover something even more valuable – a community that welcomes them just as they are.
“As a church, we want everyone who walks through our doors to know they are welcomed, loved and accepted,” says Father Daniel. “Whether you’re exploring faith, reconnecting with church or simply looking for community, there is always a place for you.”
In a busy world where genuine connection can sometimes feel elusive, investing in community could be one of the most important things we do for our wellbeing. After all, life is richer when we have people to walk alongside us.
