Prepare to deck the halls at Aspley Hornets this month when the Christmas Carols and Markets make a festive return.
The free event on Saturday, 30 November will bring the community together for a night of joyful song and celebration.
Sales and events manager, Victoria Ahearn, said Aspley Hornets had been partnering with Aspley Rotary to host the event since 2019.
“We will have the usual Christmas carols starting at 5pm with market stalls, food vendors and rides to start from 4pm,” Victoria said.
“There will be a special visit from Santa and some great photo opportunities.
“I think the community looks forward to having something close and easy to access, with activities for all ages.”
Music, Santa, and Festive Fun for All Ages
The markets will feature an array of delicious food options, including snow cones, pizza, kebabs and low-and-slow dumplings.
Local artisans will showcase their creations, with the Men’s Shed stall, knitted items from Inner Wheel, and even ice-cold dog treats from Gunners Goodies for four-legged friends.
Kids will have a blast with a jumping castle and rides, while the face painter remains a popular attraction.
“The line-up for the face painter, no matter how many we get, always seems to be the longest,” Victoria said. “We have some regulars that always get in early to beat the crowds.”
The New Black Band will mark their fourth year at the Christmas Carols and Markets, performing an array of festive favourites.
Xell Newton, manager and vocalist of the band, said the event had become a wonderful tradition to bring in the holiday cheer each year.
“We put on a high-energy, festive show with a mix of classic Christmas carols and some surprising fun, modern holiday hits,” Xell said.
“Christmas Carols are a time that everyone gets to sing along with the band, but our favourite singers in the crowd are the kids! They’re the reason Santa shows up, so we try to have lots of interactive moments with them.”
She said the feeling of connecting with the community and seeing families, kids and friends all coming together to celebrate, set the tone for the lead-up to Christmas.
“It’s not really the holiday season unless we’ve shared it with our Aspley Hornets crowd,” she said. “We have loved being a part of bringing the Christmas cheer, and look forward to many more.”
