The new Hawera Court Bridge in Aspley has officially been opened, providing an enhanced connection between Hawera Crescent Park and the Little Cabbage Tree Creek bikeway.

The bridge replacement comes after the original structure was damaged during the 2022 floods and subsequently removed in February of last year.

McDowall Ward Councillor Tracy Davis said the replacement was part of Brisbane City Council’s commitment to making getting around local suburbs even easier.

“We know how important staying active is and the upgraded Hawera Court Bridge will keep walkers and cyclists connected to the popular Little Cabbage Tree Creek bikeway,” Cr Davis said.

“Our Council will continue to deliver these important local projects, providing more ways to get out and stay active in our suburbs.”

Construction of the new 4.3-metre pedestrian bridge began in July 2023 and was completed in May this year.

The bridge has been redesigned to be more flood resilient and includes a stronger foundation, three-metre-wide shared paths on either end and a new kerb ramp that connects walkers and cyclists to the bikeway.
