Nundah’s beloved annual celebration is back this month, bringing live music, delicious food, and family entertainment to the heart of the suburb.

The Nundah Festival returns with a full weekend of activities from 12 to 14 September, and free entry for all.

The festival has grown steadily since its 2001 debut, thanks to what coordinator Annie Reid described as “a lot of hard work by six volunteers.”

A major feature of the festival weekend is the Nundah Art Show at the Nundah Mitsubishi-Isuzu-Suzuki showroom on Eton Street, 10am to 2pm daily, from 12 to 14 September. The Saturday evening soiree on 13 September at 6pm will see winners announced across five categories, including portraiture, landscape, contemporary, sculpture/carvings, and still life. The grand prize winner will take home $3000.

Music, Markets, and Community Spirit

On Friday, 12 September, there will be a family-friendly outdoor movie in Boyd Park, from 4pm to 8pm (movie starts at 6.15pm). The Nundah Festival and Markets take over Sandgate Road on Sunday, 14 September, with two live music stages, hundreds of student performers, the Nundah State School marching band, food and market stalls, roving street entertainers, and amusement rides.

When asked what she was most looking forward to this year, Annie said: “It’s to see the look on the little kids’ faces, especially when they see the stilt walkers.”

She added that she hoped Nundah residents would walk away from this year’s festival with “a feeling of pleasure to belong to a great local community.”
