Brisbane pop rock group tomtom is gearing up for an afternoon of live music, featuring special guests, New Zealand band The Narcs.
They will be joined by local artists and friends at the free event at Flat Lizard Brewing in Stafford this month.
Lead singer, rhythm guitarist and songwriter William Tom said the event was about a love of music and having a good time.
“A tomtom show is all about energy and bringing something live that you can’t get on records,” Will said.
“We all work full time and two of the band members have young kids so being able to get an evening to let the rock dog out is a real treat for us and we try to make the most of it.”
Tomtom & Friends: The Line Up
Founded as a solo act in 2019, tomtom has evolved into a four-piece band featuring lead guitarist Wil Hughes, bassist Matt Caldwell and drummer Billy Dickson. Their sound is influenced by 90s alt-rock icons like Foo Fighters and Powderfinger, with multi-layered vocal parts stemming from Will’s choir background.
The Narcs, who rose to fame in the 1980s with hit records and support spots with Queen and Elton John, will also take the stage.
Lead singer Andy Dickson, said the event was special because his longtime friend and The Narcs’ bass player Tony Waine was visiting from New Zealand.
“We thought we would take advantage of the opportunity and team up with my son Billy’s band tomtom, and along with some mutual friends and other local artists, to create a relaxed showcasing event,” Andy said.
“It’s a melding of the generations, as apart from playing drums with tomtom, my son Billy will be joining The Narcs on the skins for the very first time, which we are really excited about.”
He added it was a great opportunity to support the venue.
“I love a good craft beer and Flat Lizard Brewing is not only one of my favourite local breweries but also one that I perform at as a soloist from time to time,” he said.
Will agreed it was important to have places like Flat Lizard Brewing thriving in Stafford.
“Brisbane doesn’t have a huge amount of suburban venues and they’ve been nothing but supportive in having us come and put on a show,” he said.
The event also features performances by Tony Windred, Nick Weinert, Beau Stegert and Friends, and Don Crescendo and Luke.
