High Tea Event to Support South African Communities

A special Ladies High Tea will be held at Kedron-Wavell on Saturday, 16 August, inviting expat South Africans and local residents to raise funds for vulnerable communities in South Africa.

The event is organised by OzGeeOm, an Australian charity founded by South African expats.

OzGeeOm committee member Yolande Steyn said the charity felt strongly about “charity begins at home”.

“Our focus this year is to support young adults in these underprivileged communities in South Africa to be able to get tertiary education so they can lift up their families and communities in the future,” Yolande said. “We feel this is the only way we can break the cycle of poverty in these communities.”

The event runs from 10am to 2pm. Tickets are $50. Get your tickets here.

Nundah Walks for Mental Health

The Rotary Club of Nundah will host its first LIFT THE LID WALK for Mental Health on Sunday, 15 June, starting at 9am at the Nundah Criterium Circuit.

Inspired by mental health advocate Vicki Stewart, who launched the original event in Mooloolaba, the initiative has raised over $470,000 for Australian Rotary Health.

“The fundraising is vital… but at this point in time, it is so much more important to have the conversation and break down the social stigma of mental health, as it affects so many people,” Vicki said.

Entry is $30, with free registration for kids 15 and under.

“It’s never been more important for us to play a role in supporting mental health in our local communities than it is right now,” said event committee member Terry Ryan.
