A new venue for musicians has opened in Geebung, providing a dedicated space for rehearsal, recording and creative collaboration.

Buffalo Speedway, located on Newman Road, is a boutique studio featuring an acoustically-engineered control room and live room.

A Space Created by Musicians, for Musicians

Managing partner Andrew Bower said it had taken about three and a half years from the decision to create a music facility to the first notes played in the studio.

“We started with an empty shell of a building, so our acoustic engineer was able to design every room to sound great for its purpose, for example, rehearsal, recording and playback in the control room,” Andrew said.

“We were able to incorporate features, like floating concrete floors and central air conditioning with special baffles to avoid noise transmission usually only found in more expensive facilities.

“The load-in situation is about as good as it could possibly be. You can pull your car right up to the door and bring gear straight into the rooms. We’ve also made efforts with furnishing, décor, etc, to create a welcoming and inspiring creative space.”

A musician himself, Andrew has been part of Brisbane’s music scene since the 90s. His band, The Valery Trails, started as a trans-Pacific project following his relocation to Houston, while the other members remained in Brisbane.

“Our home in Houston had a large garage apartment, which was my home studio and storage space for all my music gear,” he said. “Our house in Australia doesn’t have that kind of space, so the initial idea was to find a space my band could use for rehearsals, sharing time/cost with other bands and with some kind of recording facility.”

The Geebung property was chosen for its central location and potential to support a high-standard facility.

“I could see a gap in the market for a rehearsal room with better acoustics and a nicer environment than other rehearsal spaces in the area, and for a quality recording studio designed to sound great at affordable rates,” Andrew said.

The studio offers musicians a space to rehearse for their next performance, record drums in a soundproof environment, experiment with a range of guitars and amps and track or mix their next project.

For anyone wishing to celebrate the holiday season and visit the facilities, Buffalo Speedway is hosting a Christmas party on Saturday, 14 December.
