Elvis fans, get ready to be all shook up – award-winning tribute artist Doug Charles is bringing the King back to the northside.
Elvis Nights in Vegas – A Big Screen Show Spectacular will light up the Northern Suburbs Bowls Club in Wavell Heights on 16 August, marking the anniversary of Elvis Presley’s death.
Doug said the show was part of his broader calendar of themed Elvis experiences, pairing his live vocals with images of Elvis across two big screens.
“Because I work solo, every show relies on carefully curated archival footage to set the mood and turn the twin cinema screens into their own time-travel machine,” Doug said.
To honour the date’s significance, the show begins with a moment of reflection featuring dimmed lights and a montage of home-movie clips, gospel rehearsals and photos.
“From there, we launch into a full-throttle Vegas set: jumpsuit sparkle, scarf giveaways, and invitations to hit the dance floor because the best way to remember Elvis is with joy,” Doug said.
“One of the most emotional moments is ‘Unchained Melody’, taken from Elvis’s final concert in 1977. I sing it live while Elvis appears on screen in perfect sync, and there’s barely a dry eye in the house.”
The evening concludes with a performance of Can’t Help Falling in Love.
“Just as Elvis closed his concerts, we end the night with this timeless anthem, synced to heartfelt footage on both screens – a gentle reminder that the King’s spirit lingers long after the last note fades,” Doug said.
Honouring the Legacy and Booking Details
Having claimed the Tribute to the King title at the 2023 Parkes Elvis Festival and sixth place in the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest at Cooly Rocks On, Doug reflected on what drives his performances. “I’ve always felt as though Elvis were singing directly to me,” he said.
“After decades of studying his craft – every vocal inflection, every quiet grin – you start to sense his spirit slip into the room when you put on the jumpsuit.”
According to Doug, bringing his theatrical style of productions to local audiences allows them to “feel that same ‘wow’” as people paying top dollar at an events centre, “supports grassroots venues, and keeps Elvis’s legacy shining right where it matters most – at the heart of the community.”
Tickets are $35 (plus booking fee). Get your tickets here.
