Jabiru Community College in Zillmere has unveiled new learning spaces designed to enhance educational outcomes for students and provide staff with modern facilities.
The new facilities were officially opened last month by Member for Lilley Anika Wells, alongside Jabiru Community College co-principals Frances Missen and David Powell, and Indigenous elder, Uncle David Miller.
Minister Wells said the development was supported by $900,000 in Australian Government funding through the Capital Grants Program.
“A lot of work has gone into this project which has delivered the conversion of ground floor space to a visual art studio, general learning area, withdrawal spaces, a learning commons, a covered outdoor learning area and a kiln shelter,” Minister Wells said.
“These new facilities will provide school staff, teachers and students at Jabiru Community College with better, more modern spaces in which to work, teach and learn.”
Government Funding Supports Enhanced Educational Opportunities
Jabiru Community College is a small, independent, non-government school located on Cambewarra Street, that offers flexible, personalised education for students in years 10, 11 and 12.
Minister Wells said the new facilities would benefit both current and future students.
“The teachers, staff and students at Jabiru Community College have built a strong and positive school community and these new facilities will further enhance our local educational opportunities,” she said.
