Two Australian blues and soul favourites are teaming up for a very special performance to mark their official new album launch in Brisbane.
8 Ball Aitken & Taya Chani will be celebrating their collaboration, ‘Nightbird’ at the Royal in Nundah this July with an entertaining night of original soulful tunes.
“It will be an uptempo night with plenty of dancing and high vibration blues and soul music,” 8 Ball said. “This is the kind of music that connects and makes people feel good.”
Taya and 8 Ball’s mutual love for blues, country and soul drew them together and they have seen much success in their time collaborating together.
“Taya sang on my last three albums and after writing a bunch of songs together, we decided that we should make an album,” 8 Ball said. “We’ve had two number #1 AMRAP Australian Regional Radio Chart hits from the album this year. She is my favorite soul singer in Australia and has a voice that brings soul and blues music to life – she’s like my sister from another mister.”
A Night of Soulful Blues at Royal Nundah
Originally from a small, rural town in Far North Queensland, 8 Ball has now travelled and toured around the globe but is no stranger to playing at the Royal Quarters in Nundah.
“I am from Mareeba, but I’ve travelled much of my life,” he said. “I’ve performed in 20 countries and I lived in the USA in Nashville and Austin. But Nightbird will be my fourth album launch at the Royal Nundah. It’s a brilliant venue to play at and it’s become a bit of a thing for our Brisbane supporters to gather there.”
Joining the duo on stage will be 8 Ball’s brother, talented keyboard player, Dillion James.
“It’s great having family in the band,” 8 Ball said. “My brother will be opening the show and he’ll also play in the band with us after his opening set.”
After all of the long hours he and Taya have spent in the studio, 8 Ball explained they were looking forward to sharing their new music and celebrating their efforts.
“Every ticket holder will get a free CD of the new album,” he said.
“We love to sing, play and entertain, so if you um and ah about coming along, try something new and come hear some music that will make you move and soothe your soul.”
