Family fun is in full swing at this year’s Nundah State School Winter Fair, so mark your calendar for a day of community cheer.
On Saturday, 21 June, the school grounds will burst to life with rides and attractions, delicious eats, local stalls, and entertainment for all ages, thanks to the Nundah State School P&C.
Marketing coordinator for the Nundah State School Winter Fair, Rachel Einhorn, said this year’s fair held special significance as it would celebrate 160 years of the school.
“We will have some displays and photos representing days of Nundah’s past, alongside the games and rides, of course,” Rachel said.
Attendees can expect the return of crowd-favourite rides, including the giant slide, obstacles, sizzler and round-up. There will also be a DJ, food trucks, drinks, a silent auction for the adults and lolly games for the young ones.
A Proud Tradition of School and Community Celebration
Although the Winter (and previously Spring) Fairs are relatively new, the tradition of school fetes at Nundah stretches back more than a century.
“We can even date one back to 6 September 1924,” Rachel said. “This was an important event in school history as it marked a time when parents started fundraising for the first school tennis court and to create a school oval by filling in the creek that still runs under the existing oval to this day.
“It marked a time in history where parents were demanding more fun recreational activities in school, post WW1.”
Proceeds from this year’s Winter Fair will help fund shade structures on the Year 2 playground.
Community groups and key community members also host stalls at the fair to promote their businesses and speak about what they do for the community.
“It’s a great way to showcase what they bring to the local area,” Rachel said.
When asked what she enjoyed most about the Winter Fair, Rachel said it was seeing the Nundah community out and having an amazing time with their family and friends.
“We live in such a great part of Brisbane and this event really shows what a lovely area this is,” she said. “We can’t wait to see you there!”
