The aged care sector is gearing up for another major transformation with the introduction of the Support at Home (SaH) program, scheduled to commence on 1 July.

This reform marks a significant shift in the way aged care services are delivered and funded in Australia, aiming to simplify the current system and provide more responsive, individualised care to older Australians living at home.

Despite the rapidly approaching start date, service providers across the country are still awaiting finalised details and guidance from the government. This delay has led to a flurry of behind-the-scenes activity as providers work hard to prepare for the transition, while also trying to keep consumers informed and supported.

Consumers currently receiving Home Care Packages (HCP) can expect to receive formal communications from both the government and their care provider in the coming weeks. These updates will outline what the transition means for them, what changes to expect and how their services may be affected under the new model.

Navigating Change: What Consumers Need to Know About Support at Home

As always, we remain committed to supporting our current clients and warmly welcoming new participants into the Support at Home program. We understand that change – especially in aged care – can bring uncertainty and we are doing everything we can to make this process as smooth and transparent as possible.

One key change under the SaH program is the introduction of client contributions on all service categories except for clinical care, which are being assessed and calculated by Services Australia. We acknowledge that this has raised concerns and confusion for some people, particularly around affordability and individual financial impact. We share in your apprehension and are here to help explain these changes and work with you to find the best path forward.

As the sector awaits further clarification, our focus remains firmly on ensuring every individual continues to receive the care, dignity and support they deserve – before, during and after this transition.
