Local families can meet emergency services crews and learn how to prepare for severe weather at a free community event this month.
The Brisbane Emergency Services Expo will return to 7th Brigade Park in Chermside on Saturday, 10 October, bringing emergency services, government agencies and community organisations together. Families can explore emergency vehicles and equipment, while taking part in interactive displays and demonstrations.
Marchant Ward Councillor Danita Parry encouraged local families to come along, enjoy the activities and use the opportunity to learn a few simple ways to be better prepared at home.
“The Emergency Services Expo is a fantastic opportunity for families to meet the people who help keep our community safe and see some of their vehicles and equipment up close,” Cr Parry said.
“We know severe weather can arrive quickly in Brisbane, so it’s worth taking the time now to make sure your family has a plan and knows what to do,” Cr Parry said.
“There’s plenty for the kids to enjoy, but families can also head home with some really practical information about preparing for storms and emergencies.”
Practical Storm Preparedness and Family Activities
The expo will provide advice on emergency plans, emergency kits and preparing homes and properties for Brisbane’s storm and severe weather season.
Children can enjoy Paw Patrol shows and meet-and-greets, face painting and a jumping castle, while food trucks and a sausage sizzle will also be available.
The event is delivered by Brisbane City Council with support from the Queensland Government’s Get Ready Queensland Program.
