Kids, parents and grandparents are invited to sing along to some catchy tunes at a free Songs in the Library event this month.
The Pretzel Poem Project, a creative collaboration between author Meryn Cooper and songwriter and musician Frank Frikker, will engage families with a delightful mix of music and storytelling at Nundah Library on 16 April.

Meryn said it was important to the group that children learned to love music and that the songs were enjoyable for adults too.
“We try to pick relatable topics, like children having difficulty going to sleep, fussy eaters, but plenty of fun too, like a vegetarian crocodile, a possum in the roof, history of the pretzel and a gecko with sticky feet,” Meryn said.
Frank said they had received positive feedback from audiences.
“The little kids tap along and we get knowing nods from parents,” Frank said. “I enjoy playing good music and when parents sing along as they get our kind of humour.”
The Pretzel Poem Project came to life after a fortuitous meeting at the Redcliffe Markets, where Frank purchased Meryn’s book and later suggested collaborating on music. The name symbolises their partnership, combining Frank’s German heritage with the pretzel and Meryn’s flair for poetry.
Meryn said that she loved seeing music through young eyes.
“Kids don’t analyse why they like something,” she said. “They are very honest audiences. If they like it, you know through their smiles and attention.”
The duo has also released a self-titled debut album with an accompanying songbook.
