Plans to enhance safety and ease congestion around Kedron’s school precinct are now open for community feedback until 6 December.
The initiative is part of the Council’s commitment to deliver new Safer School Precincts across Brisbane, with the aim of making school commutes safer while reducing traffic on local streets.
Kedron is the first of four precincts to be consulted, covering a one-kilometre radius that includes St Anthony’s Primary School, Padua College and Mount Alvernia College. Residents are invited to complete a survey to share their experiences of travelling or living in the area, helping shape future improvements based on local insights.
Proposed Upgrades and Active Travel Initiatives
Marchant Ward Councillor Danita Parry said as our suburbs grow, Council was inviting residents to have their say about what would make travelling around busy school precincts better.
“Kedron locals know how busy this area gets at school pick-up and drop-off and we are looking forward to hearing what the community thinks of our plan to ease congestion and improve traffic safely,” Cr Parry said.
Potential upgrades may include pedestrian crossings, wider footpaths, expanded 40km/h school zones, kerbside drop-off areas and improved walking routes. The schools will also join the Council’s Active School Travel Program, which has already seen a significant increase in students walking or cycling to school.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner highlighted the importance of student safety, stating, “By making it easier for students to walk, ride, or scoot to school, we’re easing congestion and improving safety for everyone in the community.”
