Get ready to stomp back 66 million years when DinoFest roars into Kalinga Park in Wooloowin this month.

The dino-mite event features lifelike, walking dinosaurs, a towering T.rex and a roar-some array of activities, ideal for families with children under the age of nine.

Founder Laurence Taylor said DinoFest was a highly unique and interactive, outdoor experience-based event enjoyed by thousands of families since its launch in New Zealand.

“The inspiration for DinoFest was a road trip to the South Island of New Zealand in 2016,” Laurence said. “Driving through tree-fern-covered valleys, it was like being in a lost world of the dinosaurs! Combined with my young daughter’s love of dinosaurs and a chance conversation at Auckland Botanical Gardens, DinoFest was born!”

Laurence said he aimed to give kids a magical and educational experience that would get them to put away their devices and get active.

“As a dad, I know from experience that holding kids’ attention without technology can be challenging nowadays but DinoFest has proven that it is doable,” he said.

Guests can touch, pat and interact with more than 20 dinosaur species during the 45-minute Dinosaur Encounter, which includes Triceratops, Stegosaurus and Tyrannosaurus.

The event also offers a prehistoric peek into Australia’s past with appearances from Pterosaurs and a surprise mystery guest.

Following the Dinosaur Encounter, visitors can explore the Dino Trail, showcasing more than 30 dinosaurs.

“Specialising in Tyrannosaurs, our Dino Trail tells the story of how Tyrannosaurs grew from small dog-sized dinosaurs to become the world’s most fearsome predators over the course of 100 million years,” Laurence said. “Everyone has to start somewhere, even T.rex!”

DinoFest also includes educational activities like Dino Dig, themed arts and crafts and the chance to ‘feel a fossil’ with real dinosaur bones.

After a successful run on the Gold Coast, the event is making its Brisbane debut, with booking rates reflecting the city’s enthusiasm for dinosaurs.

“We have a cap on participant numbers at DinoFest not just for safety reasons but also because we’re very focussed on giving attendees a truly magical and thrilling experience that’s very hands-on and one they’ll remember for the rest of their lives,” Laurence said.
