The Northern Suburbs Country Music Club is inviting the community to enjoy an afternoon of local music talent.

The club’s music socials take place on the third Saturday of each month at the Bald Hills Memorial Hall, starting at noon.

Club secretary Jim Dionysius said visitors and members from neighbouring clubs attended the socials, where around 25 performers provided entertainment throughout the afternoon.

“We have a great backing band comprising bass guitar, lead guitar pedal steel, drums and rhythm guitar,” Jim said. “Band members have collectively over 250 years of musical experience.

“Our club boasts a super friendly atmosphere for members and visitors. We pride ourselves on the friendships and camaraderie that exists within the club.

“New members are always welcome and are able to develop their skills as a performer – musician or singer – and have the opportunity to perform in front of an audience.

“Our singers and musicians are always happy to tutor newcomers.”

The club was founded in 1975 by members of the Southern Suburbs Country Music Club who lived on the northside.

Jim, a member since 1988, said the club had been active for almost 50 years, with a major celebration planned for next year to honour the milestone and invite as many past members as possible.

“We have life members who are long-term members or have given dedicated service to the club,” he said.

“The club has grown over the years to standing room only at club events for many years. Today, the club is a bit smaller and we can seat everyone.

“Of special note is that Keith Urban was a junior member of our club. This is where it started for him, as well as many other budding performers.”

While the club primarily performs country music, members also showcase songs by artists such as The Beatles, Elvis Presley, Simon and Garfunkel, The Shadows and Bob Dylan.

Admission to the monthly musical socials is $8 and includes afternoon tea along with up to 4.5 hours of entertainment.

“Come and have a look, a sing, or simply enjoy the music of our local talent,” Jim said.
