Acclaimed singer-songwriter Melinda Schneider is set to enchant audiences once again with her tribute to her childhood idol, Doris Day.

Her nostalgic concert, A Farewell to Doris, is making a return to Queensland with a performance at Kedron-Wavell this month. The show will feature timeless hits such as Whatever Will Be, Will Be (Que Sera, Sera), Sentimental Journey, Everybody Loves a Lover and Secret Love.

Melinda said the show was back due to popular demand.

“My original Doris show started in Brisbane in 2011 and it did very well there,” she said. “Lots of people have asked if I would bring it back, so I’m really looking forward to singing these gorgeous songs again and sharing some Doris joy.”

The concert will showcase around 20 of Doris Day’s most beloved songs from her films and musicals, including Calamity Jane, Love Me or Leave Me and The Pajama Game, along with a selection of her big band standards.

A Nostalgic Tribute to a Timeless Icon

Melinda said her admiration of Doris Day began when she first saw Calamity Jane.

“I love her as the rooting, tooting, whip-cracking tomboy,” she said. “To me, she was everything a woman could be. I fell in love with her then and there.”

Among the many Doris Day songs she adores, Melinda said she particularly loved to perform It’s Magic.

“It’s such an old-school romantic love song and it brings back the feeling of how we all feel when we first fall in love – who doesn’t want to feel that again?” she said. “That’s the power of a great song.”

During the performance, Melinda will also share anecdotes about Doris’ life.

“Some funny, some sad and some really inspiring,” she said. “Apart from loving the versatility of the songs and how much fun they are to sing, I love telling her story because she was such an incredible survivor. What she endured in her personal life was beyond amazing and she lived to 97 years young. She helped so many, including her beloved dogs and brought so many people joy. That is why I love her so much.”

This year also marks Melinda’s 40th anniversary in Australian entertainment, a milestone that includes 14 album releases and six CMAA Golden Guitars.

Tickets start at $50 (excluding booking fee). To book, go to Kedron Wave Ticket.
