Are you curious about your family history?

Come and learn how travelling to ancestral places can reveal family stories and create connections to your past at the free presentation, How to Reap the Benefits from Exploring Ancestor Hometowns, by The Story Hunter. The presentation will be held at Aspley Hornets Football Club this month.

Walking in the Footsteps of the Ancestors

The Story Hunter, Donna Arnold, said that while she found a lot of information online, there was nothing like physically being in the places where your ancestors lived.

“Initially, researching online was exciting, as I found information including where my roots are – but I wanted more,” Donna said. “I wanted to feel what it was like living there, see the structures my ancestors saw – to literally walk in their footsteps.

“Every destination I’ve travelled to – South East Queensland, regional New South Wales, plus Manchester, Shropshire, Northumberland and Bath in the UK – I’ve come across incredible stories and/or met DNA cousins!

“By making a few simple phone calls or emails, I’ve come across documents and stories I would never have found online.

“Ten thousand miles is a long way to go for just a photo, when with a little help planning, you can discover much more family legacy.”
