Brisbane City Council has announced plans for a multi-million-dollar transformation of the Chermside Aquatic Centre, with the search now underway for a long-term partner to design, build, and operate a new, state-of-the-art facility.

As one of Brisbane’s busiest public pools, welcoming more than 863,000 visitors over the past three financial years, the centre is due for a major upgrade to cater to the needs of the growing community.

A bigger, better pool in the heart of Chermside

Marchant Ward Councillor Danita Parry said the upgrade would give northside families a bigger, better pool, right in the heart of Chermside.

“Locals love this pool, and I know they are eager to see it upgraded,” Cr Parry said.

The redevelopment will include a new indoor 25-metre heated program pool with accessibility features, an outdoor 50-metre heated pool with a moveable swim wall, modern amenities, waterplay features, an upgraded café and administration spaces, new plant and filtration systems, and energy-efficient systems.

The aquatic centre will remain in its current precinct, which also includes Kedron-Wavell, Chermside Library, Brisbane North Hockey Centre, Chermside Historical Precinct, the Voyager Centre, and 7th Brigade Park.

Cr Parry said the centre would continue to be a place where people of all ages could swim, learn to swim, play, and keep cool.

“It’s already a community hub, and an upgraded pool will make it even better,” she said.

Procurement for the project opened on 18 August. Council aims to award a contract in the second half of 2026.
