From live performances and bustling market stalls to delicious street food and family activities, Geebung’s annual street party is set to return earlier this year with another fun-filled day celebrating everything that makes this local community unique.
Event manager Kate Bishop explained that Collings Street has typically hosted the annual event in late October; however, this year, the much-loved festival will take place at the end of August.
Now in its fourth year, the street party had originally been established after Councillor Jared Cassidy recognised Geebung’s growing, thriving community and wanted to create an annual event for locals to enjoy.
“Anika Wells, Bart Mellish and I sat down and discussed the need for a community event in Geebung,” Cr Cassidy said. “We wanted to make it fun, free and something the whole community could get involved in.”
Showcasing the Vibrance of Geebung
Cr Cassidy said that they have been focusing on providing more free activities for families over the last few years and have been able to do so at the festival thanks to the support of sponsors Anika Wells, Bart Mellish, and the Geebung RSL Club.
“There will be free entertainment and children’s activities, more bands from local schools, and new stallholders,” he said. “We will also have different activities, including interactive inflatable games, this year.”
Kate said that there would be a wide range of market vendors and food available, including gluten-free and vegetarian options, and community groups such as Geebung Kindy, Zillmere Seniors and the Queensland Police will be participating in the festivities.
“There will be a wide range of stalls including crafts, jewellery, and toys, as well as treats like ice cream, potato twisters and Asian food,” she said. “It’s a great day out to come support local talent and vendors, enjoy some free entertainment, and get in some early Christmas shopping.”
Greg Hurley, Chief Executive Officer at Geebung RSL, added that they were proud to be a supporter of such a fabulous event.
“The Geebung RSL Sub-Branch will be operating a sausage sizzle on the day, and our Citizens Auxiliary will be operating a baked goods stall, with all money raised supporting local veterans,” he said. “The street party brings the local residents, schools, community groups, vendors, business stalls and local musicians together for a great family day out.”
