There ain’t no party like a Geebung Street Party – and given the great vibes and good times attendees had at last year’s event, the party is back bigger and better for its second iteration.

Hosted by Deagon Ward Councillor Jared Cassidy in conjunction with Geebung RSL and state and federal MPs, Geebung Street Party will again see local schools, vendors, businesses and residents take to the street for a chilled-out day of markets, food and entertainment.

“I was absolutely blown away by the success of the first event we held last year,” Cr Cassidy said.

“We expected it to take some time to grow into a big festival, and weren’t even sure if it would be a yearly event, but given its success, we decided it would become part of our yearly calendar.”

Cr Cassidy said there would be a stack of activities on offer for people of all ages, all located centrally around the Geebung RSL’s car park and facilities to make life easy for attendees.

“We will have local schools performing on stage, alongside other young performers,” he said.

“We will also welcome back the community and small business stalls and some great food trucks. A lot of the stalls will have free activities for children, too.

“The Street Party is located in Collings Street, Geebung. The RSL will be open on the day for people to attend if they would like to also.”

Geebung RSL CEO Greg Hurley said last year’s event attracted about 2000 people on a perfect spring day, with this year’s party expected to be just as popular.

“Last year was very successful – we could not have been more pleased with the response from the Geebung community,” he said.

“The event allows everyone to celebrate the local Geebung community, its people, its past and its future – it is a great suburb with a distinct village-like atmosphere,” he said.

“[Last year] the live music and food vendor stalls were a big highlight – the musical talent of our young people was uplifting as was the diversity of business and not-for-profit operators contributing to the day.”
