If a party with pink flamingos and getting dressed up in plastic visors, plaid trousers and tropical kaftans sounds like a blast, don’t miss this month’s Fancy Dress Disco.

After a few years’ hiatus, the annual event is back at a new venue, the Royal Hotel Nundah, with all proceeds benefiting Beyond Blue.

The mastermind behind the disco, Mz Vicki, said her love for dressing up in ridiculous gear inspired this year’s ‘Florida Retirement Village’ theme.

“I was rewatching an episode of Seinfeld that had Jerry’s parents in it – they had moved to Del Boca Vista retirement village,” Mz Vicki said. “I just thought how fun it would be to dress up as a super-tanned pensioner and how great my husband would look in high-waisted shorts with sandals and socks. A vision started forming in my mind.”

The disco will feature music ranging from modern hits to nostalgic tunes, like Tom Jones and Neil Diamond.

“The night is all about being silly, leaving your adult self at the door and just having a great night dancing and laughing,” Mz Vicki said.

A Night of Fancy Dress, Laughter, and Support

The Fancy Dress Disco is a fundraiser for Beyond Blue, a charity that Mz Vicki said saved her life during a struggle with undiagnosed bipolar disorder.

“They talked to me and really listened and were able to refer me to a GP that actually took me seriously and I was finally diagnosed and began my journey out of my hole,” she said.

“If I can help just one person like me, then I am happy.”

Tickets are $30pp at the door.
