Cancer touches the lives of many, and Chermside Bowls Club’s Pink Day has been an incredible example of community strength and support for Breast Cancer Awareness month which takes place in October.
Over the past three years, this event has raised crucial funds and this year Club Chermside will support the McGrath Foundation and St Vincent’s Private Hospital Northside’s Oncology Department, enabling them to provide compassionate care not just to patients, but also their families.
Robert Barnes, Bowls President, knows all too well the effect Cancer has on families.
Unite for a Cause at Club Chermside Pink Day
“In May 2015, my sister was diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer. With no family history, it shook our family deeply. After undergoing a mastectomy, six rounds of chemotherapy, and years of medication, she is now eight years clear,” he said.
“These experiences remind us that cancer can affect anyone, at any time. That’s why I, along with my sister, take part in Pink Day events. It’s a small way to give back and help others facing similar challenges.”
So get a team together, dust off your best pink attire and enjoy not only a great day of bowls, but also help Club Chermside raise vital funds to support the amazing work St Vincents do for patients and their families.
