The Aspley Orchid Society Inc May Orchid Show is the perfect place to grow your appreciation for orchids.

Held on Saturday, 10 May at the Wavell Heights Community Hall, the annual event will bring together orchid enthusiasts, hobby growers and curious visitors just in time for Mother’s Day.

Aspley Orchid Society Inc Secretary Roslyn Hunt said the show was the perfect place to buy a ‘living gift’ of a flowering orchid or foliage plant ahead of the Sunday celebrations.

“What I like most about this show is the enthusiasm demonstrated by the members in organising this event on the Mother’s Day weekend for over 25 years,” Roslyn said. “It provides an opportunity for everyone to enjoy themselves, meet new individuals and inspire others to cultivate and appreciate orchids.”

Show Highlights, Raffles, and Entry Info

The event will feature a range of competition displays, showcasing blooms from varieties including cattleya, dendrobium and Australian native orchids.

A trade table run by Brisbane Orchid Supplies will be stocked with orchid-growing essentials, such as pots, growing media, fertilisers and accessories.

Visitors can also enter the raffle, which includes prizes such as a box of orchids and a gift basket donated by the show’s patron, Councillor for McDowall Ward Tracy Davis. The raffle will be drawn at 3pm, with winners notified by phone.

Light refreshments will be available for purchase. The venue offers ample parking and wheelchair access.

Entry is $4 for adults, with free admission for children under 16.
