The North East Community Support Group (NECSG) is a local lifeline for residents across northeast Brisbane who are navigating difficult circumstances.

Located in Zillmere, the NECSG provides essential services to people in need, regardless of their background or life stage.

Luci Davey, who has been acting as centre manager, said the NECSG was “here for everyone in northeast Brisbane.”

“We play a crucial role in addressing some of the big challenges affecting our community – food insecurity, homelessness, domestic and family violence and social isolation,” Luci said.

NECSG delivers its mission through three core programs. The Zillmere Community Centre acts as a hub for essential services, including referrals, food relief, emergency support, and social and community events. The Zillmere Family Accommodation Program provides temporary accommodation and support for families at risk of or experiencing homelessness. The Zillmere Young Peoples Support Services program assists youth aged 12 to 21 who are facing personal challenges.

New Leadership and a Call for Support

Luci said with limited government funding, they rely on the generosity of supporters to meet unfunded operating expenses.

“We are always looking for volunteers to be part of our community, particularly in the areas of our community garden, food program and general centre operations,” she added.

Stepping into the permanent role of centre manager is local Michelle Zavazal, whose professional background includes police work, legal practice, community engagement and family dispute resolution.

“Michelle is a woman from the Maluyligan clan and comes to the role with many local connections in North Brisbane,” Luci said. “We are fortunate to have someone of Michelle’s calibre join our team.”
