Residents across Chermside and surrounding suburbs can expect upgrades to local parks, roads and community infrastructure as part of Brisbane City Council’s $3.9 billion 2026-27 Budget.

Council said the budget focuses on easing cost-of-living pressures while continuing to invest in suburban projects and services.

Under the budget, minimum general rates for owner-occupied households will increase by 3.97 per cent, equivalent to around 70 cents per week.

The package includes a $76.5 million cost-of-living initiative featuring a $60 annual on-time rates payment discount, increased pensioner rebates, free off-peak transport for seniors, the return of the $2 Summer Dips program and the continuation of free annual kerbside collection services.

Local Infrastructure and Park Improvements

Locally, road, pedestrian and footpath upgrades are planned for Davenport Street at Rode Road, Maundrell Terrace, Weeroona Street, Sears Street and Swinburne Street.

Road resurfacing works will also take place on Craigslea Street, Webster Road, Hamilton Road, Kedron Park Road, Robinson Road West, Sears Street and Swinburne Street.

Several parks are also set to benefit from improvements, including upgrades to 7th Brigade Park, where works will refresh existing sporting facilities and the cycling track.

Benelong Park will receive a new playground, while Burnie Brae Park is set for upgrades including improvements to the dog park.

Other projects include replacing the basketball court and adding seating at Lanham Park, upgrades to Frederick Annand Park, improved lighting at Emmerson Park, access driveway works at Bradshaw Park and the removal of old sheds at Huxtable Park.

Environmental works are also planned, including weed removal and replanting along Somerset Creek.

The budget also includes funding to progress the next stage of the Kedron Safer School Precinct plan and drainage and stormwater works on Khartoum Street.
