The Brisbane Model Train Show returns to Zillmere this month for railway enthusiasts of all ages.
Presented by the Australian Model Railway Association (AMRA) Queensland, the annual event will be held at the Northside Indoor Sports Centre on 4 and 5 July.
AMRA Queensland president Bruce Meiklejohn said the show gave visitors the chance to see “what is available and what is new in the hobby”.
“It promotes the hobby to beginners and shows the techniques that are used to make something simple but effective,” Bruce said.
The show will feature model railway layouts, hobby traders and retailers, railway books and magazines, and rare and second-hand items.
Modern Innovations Revitalize the Hobby
Bruce said model railway technology had changed since he became interested in the hobby as a child.
“When I first started, there were limited brands here in Australia,” he said. “The hobby was expensive to get into. Now, with 3D printing, DCC, battery technology, and scenery techniques, the hobby is only limited by your imagination.”
He said he hoped the show would promote AMRA Queensland and other local model railway clubs while attracting new members.
“After all, it is the love of trains that brings us together,” he said.
Admission is $20 for adults and $15 for concession holders, with free entry for children aged 16 and under when accompanied by an adult or concession card holder. Tickets will be available at the door only.
