From iconic piano riffs to unforgettable melodies, Greg Andrew invites fans to experience the magic of Sir Elton John live this month.
Described as the next best thing to seeing the legend himself, the Elton John Experience will take the stage at Kedron-Wavell on Saturday, 6 June, performing songs such as Candle In The Wind, Daniel, Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me and Crocodile Rock.
Greg said his show would feature Elton’s greatest hits.
“People will be very familiar with all the songs,” he said. “The hardest thing with doing a show full of greatest hits is actually what songs to leave out, as there are so many of them. By the reaction of the crowds we have performed to, I think the mix is great… between the iconic ballads to the faster crowd favourites.
“There is a medley that I do solo that highlights a few songs that were huge hits. This always has great feedback, and the audience loves it!”
Why the Elton John Experience Still Captivates Audiences
He said Elton and Bernie Taupin’s iconic songs, spanning more than 50 years, resonate with audiences of all ages.
“I am a huge fan of the music myself and love performing these songs,” he said. “Whether it’s during the show or at a meet and greet after the show, I love seeing and hearing the reaction and memories these wonderful songs have given people.
“Music is the closest thing to time-travel I think we have…a particular hit reminds people of a previous time in their life, evoking a very powerful feeling or memory. I’m very privileged to be able to perform these incredible songs by such an iconic artist that leaves people feeling great and on a high after the show…especially in the times we live in today.”
Greg trained at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music and noted that this classical piano background allowed him to replicate Elton John’s style. He said people often did a double-take when they saw him, because he had put a lot of work into the mannerisms, costumes, and jewellery over the past 17 years.
“Attention to detail is THE most important thing when performing someone as iconic as Elton,” he said. “I am fortunate to ‘naturally’ have the look. Combine this with my iconic costumes modelled on exactly what Elton’s are, makes my look a standout. Lastly, my vocal timbre is ‘similar’ to Elton’s. All these attributes make my performance ‘believable’ for the audience and is why I am regarded as one of the best Elton tributes in the world today.”
