The Kedron Wavell Sub Branch Women’s Auxiliary has announced a recent change in leadership with the appointment of a new president.
Judith Peake was elected on 19 March and will continue the organisation’s important work supporting veterans and their families in the local community.
Judith, who previously served as Deputy President for three years under Carmel Gould OAM, spoke warmly of her predecessor.
“A remarkable person who had held the position of president for ten years,” Judith said. “Hopefully, I can continue with the good work from Carmel.”
Supporting Veterans Through Community and Fundraising Efforts
The Women’s Auxiliary, part of the Returned Services League (RSL) network, plays a key role in supporting the Kedron Wavell Sub Branch. Through fundraising, community events, and hands-on activities, the group helps improve the wellbeing of veterans, ex-service personnel, and the wider community. Their efforts include raising funds, selling badges for Anzac Day and Remembrance Day, and hosting a variety of annual stalls.
“Our biggest fundraising is from our food and craft stalls, which we hold three times a year,” Judith said. “These are held in the Kedron Wavell foyer. We are very grateful for the support of the management and staff of the Kedron Wavell community club.
“We had a very successful Easter Stall on Wednesday, 1 April. Our winter stall will be held on 5 August and our Christmas stall on 2 December. We invite all to come along to support our endeavours and enjoy homemade goods, craft, and plants.”
Through its fundraising efforts, the Auxiliary has supported local charities, including Hummingbird House, Queensland’s only children’s hospice, and Youngcare Australia.
Members meet every Thursday at 9.30am for morning tea, with meetings typically finishing around 11.30am or noon.
“Our meeting days are every Thursday morning, and this gives our ladies a day out to enjoy one another’s company,” Judith said. “We also have had guest speakers whose subjects relate to their wellbeing, along with representatives from organisations that we have given donations.”
The group also enjoys activities such as making jewellery, playing card games, Hoy, Bingo, and trivia.
