Tools and handcrafted timber items will be among the goods on offer at the Stafford Men’s Shed Garage Sale this month.

The event will be held on Saturday, 14 November, next to the car park at St Clement’s Church in Stafford.

Stafford Men’s Shed Secretary David Simpson said members had been working over the past few weeks to build up stocks across a range of products.

“The Garage Sale will include a wide range of items made by members as well as a large selection of second-hand tools and materials that have been donated to the shed over the past year,” David said.

“Shed-made items will include a range of laminated boards, native bee hives and turned items. We work exclusively in wood, using untreated timber and food-safe glue and finishes.”

David said the range of products reflected the different projects members could work on at the shed.

“We are loosely formed into teams: the Woodturners, the Bee Team and the Board Makers,” he said. “The structure of the teams is constantly evolving, although for safety reasons the Woodturners are restricted to those with specialist experience of wood lathes.  All shed members have to undergo training in the safe use of our power tools.”

He said he expected “chopping boards, cheese boards, pizza boards and charcuterie boards” to be among the most sought-after items in the lead-up to Christmas.

“Demand for native bee hives continues to be high,” he added.

The shed also makes items to order, while some of its products are available through local businesses.

“A couple of local shops stock our boards; QRoasters in Stafford and The Cheeseboard in Albion,” David said.

He said much of the shed’s output was also sold online and through local events.

The Stafford Men’s Shed is a not-for-profit organisation, with money raised through the garage sale going towards the shed’s running costs, tools, materials and power bills.

David said the majority of shed members would be at the Garage Sale.

“It is very rewarding to see the happy smiling faces of people who come into the shed to pick up products they have ordered and/or bought,” David said.

“It will be the same at the Garage Sale, plus they will also be able to enjoy the sausage sizzle.

“Come along and browse; you may well find things you didn’t know you needed and help support a good cause!”
