A marvellous night for a Moondance awaits as the Australian Van Morrison Show hits Queensland for the first time this month.
The tour begins on 20 February at the Royal Hotel Nundah, with soul singer Steve Boyd leading the Melbourne-based band in a celebration of Van Morrison’s iconic songs.
Steve said performing Van Morrison’s music was a great honour.
“We are an R&B band at heart, so our set tends to be a bit rockier than say Van himself, who leans more towards jazz at his live shows,” Steve said. “We have a jazzy element in certain songs and our sax player Jim Glasson is an outstanding jazz player, however, there is a rock and roll element to what we do.”
Band and Tour Details
Joining Steve and Jim in the band are Glenn Goldsmith on lead guitar, Chris Rourke on bass, Johnny T on drums, Phil Bennett on piano and Neil Gracey on trumpet. The band will perform classic Van Morrison hits, including Brown Eyed Girl, Moondance and more.
“All the guys in my band are excellent musicians, so the gigs are always a success because Van fans tend to appreciate good musicians,” Steve said.
“This show has always worked well for me, as I’ve never needed to change anything about myself. I’ve always dressed the same and performed the same way as I do in my original band.
“I don’t attempt to copy Van Morrison, and we don’t play his songs note for note like a cover band might. We simply play his great songs. No one I’ve ever met can sing like Van Morrison.”
After sold-out shows in Perth, Adelaide and Tasmania, Steve said the band was eager to bring their performance to Queensland.
“It’s such a great part of the country for live music,” he said. “I’m hoping Queensland will be as welcoming as Perth, Tassie and Adelaide.
“Our plan is to focus on the east coast this year and get things going in Queensland, NSW and Victoria, so fingers crossed this run goes well and we will be back.”
He encouraged everyone to bring their dancing shoes and get ready to sing.
‘If you live in the Nundah region and love good music, eating, drinking, dancing and a great live band, treat yourself to a night out, you deserve it!” he said.
