The inaugural Kedron Running Festival is set to bring runners, walkers and families together for a new community sporting event.

The Race Hub Australia event will be held on Sunday, 27 September at Shaw Park, Wavell Heights, with courses following the Kedron Brook Cycleway.

Race Hub Australia Head of Marketing Lauren Sutton said the success of the nearby Brighton Running Festival had reinforced that more people across south-east Queensland were looking for welcoming, community-focused running events close to home.

“We wanted to create another event that celebrates running while showcasing a different part of Brisbane,” Lauren said. “The Kedron Brook area has a fantastic running culture, with thousands of locals using the paths every week for running, walking and cycling.

“Shaw Park provides an ideal event hub with great facilities, plenty of open space and easy access for participants and spectators. Combined with the Kedron Brook Cycleway, it creates a course that is scenic, flat and enjoyable to run.

“It felt like the perfect location to bring a festival that encourages people of all ages and abilities to get active, challenge themselves and enjoy a fun day out with family and friends.”

Courses and Participation for Everyone

The festival will feature a half marathon, 10km, 5km and 2km Family Dash, with all participants receiving a finisher medal, refreshments, sponsor giveaways and a certificate after completing their event.

“You definitely don’t have to be an experienced runner to take part,” Lauren said.

“Whether someone is chasing a personal best, completing their very first event or simply looking for a fun morning outdoors, there’s a distance to suit them.

“The 2km Family Dash is especially important because it removes the pressure that many people associate with running events. Parents can participate alongside their children, grandparents can join in, and kids can experience the excitement of crossing a finish line and earning a medal.”

Lauren said organisers hoped participants would finish the event feeling proud of themselves and inspired to stay active.

“You’ll be surrounded by others achieving their own goals, and crossing the finish line is an incredibly rewarding feeling,” she said. “It’s less about how fast you are and more about being part of the experience.”
