Back by popular demand this month, Shhh…Silent Disco invites you to plug in, tune out, and hit the dance floor your way.

On Friday, 13 March, the event at Kedron-Wavell will see partygoers don wireless headphones and choose their own soundtrack, switching between rock, pop and hip hop channels throughout the night.

Enis Osmic, also known as DJ Stantaylor, DJ and Director of Osmic Productions Group – Best Silent Disco, said the Silent Disco format was far more interactive compared to a traditional live DJ set.

“It’s surprisingly energetic and very inclusive,” he said.

“Instead of one sound system controlling the room, the audience has choice and control. Seeing different reactions happening at the same time creates an atmosphere you just don’t get with a traditional DJ setup.

“People relax quickly, dance more freely, and have fun exploring different channels. It’s playful, social, and much more engaging than most people expect.”

Behind the Decks: Crafting the Perfect Personal Soundtrack

Enic said he selected very different tracks for a Silent Disco than a usual live set.

“Track selection needs to be instantly engaging,” he said. “I focus on recognisable songs with strong hooks and singalong moments. Because people can switch channels, every track has to earn its place.

“I always love dropping a well-known throwback that everyone instantly recognises, those tracks create the biggest reactions because you can literally see the whole room light up at once.

“The aim is fun, familiarity, and momentum – music that brings different age groups together and creates shared moments, even though everyone is listening on headphones.”

Despite members of the crowd listening to different music, Enic said maintaining a connection with the audience was achieved by “reading the room visually, body language, reactions, and energy levels.”

“Eye contact, gestures, and timing become really important,” he said. “When you see a crowd react at the same moment, you know you’ve connected.”

He said the rise of Silent Discos was part of a shift in how people engage in live entertainment.

“People want experiences that feel personal but still social,” he said. “Silent Discos give guests freedom of choice while keeping everyone connected in the same space, which really suits modern audiences and venues.”
