Frock up for a fabulous night where culture meets couture with the return of Fashique Runway.
The celebration of sustainable fashion and First Nations excellence will take place at Kedron-Wavell on Saturday, 2 May.
Founder of Fashique Runway and Murri Quu Couture, Cheryl Creed, said that this year, they have refined the experience to be more elevated, more intentional, and more impactful.
“We’ve strengthened our focus on sustainability, slow fashion, and care for Country,” Cheryl said.
“The runway is not just a one-night event – it’s a journey that builds confidence, skills, and pride.”
Eleven local, interstate, and international First Nations designers will showcase their collections, including Lyn Kay Designs from Canada. Her work is described as walking art, blending Indigenous symbolism, beadwork, and buckskin.
Lyn Kay said being connected to her Cree Ojibway culture inspired her to design unique attire known not only for beauty, but for depth – carrying stories of survival, advocacy, and healing.
“My Red Dress collection represents the plight of Indigenous women of Canada,” Lyn said.
“I will also showcase a new line created specifically for Fashique Runway 2026 – it includes gala-style gowns as well as cultural/contemporary styles.”
Beyond the Fabric: Empowerment and Community Connection
Cheryl said she was looking forward to showing the broader community what First Nations people are capable of when given space, trust and opportunity.
“I’m inspired by First Nations women: their strength, beauty, confidence, and ability to carry culture while navigating modern spaces,” she said.
“Seeing our models proudly walk the runway, knowing their journey, is incredibly motivating.”
Marrissa, a 43-year-old mother of eight children, is one of the models appearing at the event.
Marrissa said she “didn’t think she would ever have the chance to do something like this”.
“I didn’t get to dress up and go out as a very young mum, but since modelling I dress up more and feel better about myself,” she said.
“This is my third year with Fashique Runway and I’m so grateful to Auntie Cheryl for this opportunity.
“I want to encourage more girls to do this. You don’t need a resume and can be any size.”
Tickets start at $125 per person and include dinner plus a sparkling wine on arrival.
