World Science Festival is making a return to Brisbane this month to mark a decade of groundbreaking ideas and innovation.
From Friday, 21 March to Sunday, 30 March, the festival will feature more than 200 free and ticketed events across multiple locations, including Queensland Museum, the Cultural Precinct, South Bank Piazza, Fish Lane and greater Brisbane.
Professor Brian Greene, physicist and co-founder of World Science Festival, said he was thrilled to return to Brisbane to celebrate ten years of the festival.
“The festival’s incredible success is a clear reflection of the public’s enthusiasm for science and their shared commitment to addressing the world’s challenges through new ideas and discoveries,” Professor Greene said.
Renowned for his work in superstring theory, Professor Greene will appear at the QPAC Concert Hall on Thursday, 27 March, for an Australian exclusive, Search for Quantum Reality. This visual exploration will delve into the mysteries that continue to challenge our understanding of the universe.
Festival Highlights and Exciting New Events
Other festival highlights include one of last year’s most popular events, An Afternoon of Science, presented by Leigh Sales AM and Annabel Crabb. On Saturday, 29 March, the duo will engage in thought-provoking conversations with local and international scientists.
Arena Atomica: Skate-ology will blend sport and science at the South Bank Piazza, showcasing world-class skaters as they perform gravity-defying tricks. Meanwhile, the Queensland Museum will host the state premiere of Patch Theatre’s Superluminal, an interactive installation featuring colour-changing lanterns and theatrical light play designed for children and families.
On Saturday, 22 March, The Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium at Mount Coot-tha will present Karlie Noon’s Guide to the Galaxy, where First Nations astronomer Karlie Alinta Noon will narrate a tour of the night sky, accompanied by the Planetarium’s astronomers.
New to the festival this year is Science Smackdown: The Ultimate Debate, which will take place at QPAC on Saturday, 29 March. In this friendly competition, leading thinkers will debate the hottest topics in science.
CEO Queensland Museum, Dr Jim Thompson, said World Science Festival Brisbane was more than just a celebration of scientific achievements, it was a platform for curiosity and exploration.
