Rotary has introduced a new initiative to encourage part-time volunteering, making it easier for people to lend a hand when it fits into their schedule.
In an effort to continue its vital work in the local area, The Rotary Club of Aspley is calling for new volunteers and members to join their ranks.
Aspley Rotary vice president Steve Tinworth said the organisation “filled the gaps” left by governments and other agencies and stepped in where help was most needed.
“From feeding families to supporting seniors, from improving local parks to organising community events, Rotary is here to uplift those in our own backyard,” Steve said.
“No better example of community cooperation and engagement is the work and support we provide to organisations such as Aspleycare, a truly compassionate and outstanding example of positive community outcomes in our area.”
Supporting Aspleycare and the Local Community
Aspleycare, a parish-based initiative group, provides material and financial aid to over 1200 families and individuals in the local community each year.
The organisation’s business development manager, Patrick Richards, said Aspleycare had felt the generous support of Aspley Rotary in their community efforts, particularly during their Christmas Hamper Appeal.
“We distribute some 200 hampers to impoverished families in our local community,” Patrick said. “Aspley Rotary gave us a very large amount of money to assist with this special event.”
Patrick said that last year, donations from Rotary had also assisted with the purchase of 100 warm blankets for people in need.
“They work so hard at fundraising and benefit many other charities,” Patrick said.
