Aussie Clog will return to Chermside this month, bringing dancers from across Australia together for a weekend of workshops, social dancing and live music.

Hosted by Confidance Cloggers, the three-day event will be held from 5-7 June, with a program spanning beginner to advanced sessions, alongside evening socials and a live musician performance.

Confidance Cloggers club leader and Australian Clogging Association president Amanda Lim said clogging was a percussive dance style that combined elements of line dancing and tap.

“Clogging is a percussive dance style – think line dancing meets tap dancing, where dancers create rhythm with their feet, but it’s done to a huge variety of music, from country and pop to contemporary hits,” Amanda said. “It’s energetic, accessible, and incredibly social.”

Workshops, Socials and Community Spirit

The weekend begins on Friday night with a social event, featuring three hours of non-stop clogging, followed by Saturday workshops catering to a range of levels.

“Saturday is when we really get into the workshops, beginning at 8:30am,” Amanda said. “With two halls running simultaneously, dancers can choose sessions that suit their level, and there’s typically something for everyone.

“Alongside routine-based workshops, we also offer introductory sessions into more advanced techniques, as well as seminars designed to support and upskill future leaders within the community.”

The program continues on Saturday afternoon with a session introducing a different dance style, with this year’s focus on line dancing. The evening includes a live musician performance, designed to add a different energy to the weekend’s social program.

The event concludes on Sunday with a final series of workshops and the popular Golden Oldies session.

Amanda said the social side of the weekend played a key role in bringing the community together.

“The social side is where the magic really happens,” she said. “We are very much a community-based activity rather than a performance dance team. While the workshops are important, it’s the moments in between, chatting over meals, dancing together in a relaxed setting, and enjoying live music that create lasting connections.

“If you’ve ever been curious about clogging, this is a great way to see what it’s all about.”
