Brisbane City Council is inviting the community to a free afternoon of live music at the Bands in the Park event on Sunday, 7 June at Dr Valentine McDowall Park.
The community event will feature performances by the Brisbane Symphonic Band (Swing) and Davey Romain (Jazz).
Brisbane Symphonic Band President Kevin Scott said the swing band would perform “all the jazz favourites”.
“We have been playing in Brisbane for over 30 years and love performing,” Kevin said.
“We have a great singer, Fiona, saxophones, trumpets, trombones, a bass part, keyboard, drummer, and will entertain you.
Live Music, Community and Entertainment
“We love being involved in the Bands in the Park events as we get to move around Brisbane and meet new audiences, who we hope will follow us in our yearly program.
“All of the members in our swing band also play in our larger group, the Brisbane Symphonic Band, who is turning 50 this year.”
Jazz musician Davey Romain will also take the stage as part of a trio featuring guitar, double bass and drums.
“We will be playing tunes from the great American songbook – straight ahead jazz, bebop and some Latin,” Davey said.
Hosted by McDowall Ward Councillor Tracy Davis, the event will also include free face painting, giant lawn games and a sausage sizzle fundraiser for the McDowall State School P&C. Attendees are encouraged to bring a picnic rug, while coffee will also be available for purchase.
