Chakradance sessions are set to bring a new wave of mindful movement and meditation to the Chermside area.

Trained facilitator Michele Binstadt said that after 16 years living in Chermside West, she wanted to offer the nourishing and transformative practice of Chakradance to the community that has supported her and her family for so many years.

“I’m at a stage of life where I value depth over busyness and meaning over achievement,” Michele said. “As a trained Chakradance facilitator, I’ve experienced firsthand how powerful this practice can be during times of transition, stress and self-reflection, and introducing it locally feels like a natural evolution.”

Founded by Natalie Southgate, Chakradance is a gentle movement meditation practice set to specifically composed music. With eyes closed and no choreography to follow, participants move in their own way to balance and align the body’s energy centres, or chakras.

“It’s not about performance; it’s about personal experience,” Michele said. “Each session also includes guided imagery and creative reflection.”

According to Michele, the experience is a wellbeing practice that people of all beliefs and backgrounds can enjoy, and people with limited mobility can practice while seated. It is suitable for adults of all ages and participants do not need to be dancers.

“There are no steps to learn, no mirrors and no one is watching you,” she said. “You dance with your eyes closed or downcast.”

A Space to Slow Down and Reconnect

She added that many people were juggling work, family and endless responsibilities, while quietly carrying stress.

“Holistic practices offer space to slow down, reconnect and breathe,” she said. “There’s a growing awareness that wellbeing isn’t just physical but also emotional, mental and spiritual. People are seeking experiences that help them feel grounded and whole, not just productive.”

Michele said Chakradance could support stress relief, emotional processing and healing, confidence, and a deeper sense of calm.

“Participants report feeling lighter, clearer and more connected, with many participants commenting that they feel like they have come home to themselves,” she said.

She said she hoped people left the sessions feeling “grounded, uplifted and in tune with their inner wisdom, with a sense that something has gently shifted.”

“It’s a privilege to bring a practice like Chakradance into our local community,” she said. “My intention is to create a safe, welcoming space where people can reconnect with themselves in the midst of busy suburban life.”
