A milestone birthday will be celebrated in memorable fashion, with Wavell Heights resident Ruby Reason marking an incredible 100 years this month.
Born in Wilston in 1926, Ruby was the youngest of seven children, growing up with three sisters and three brothers. As a teenager, she discovered a love of Highland dancing, which later led her to join a pipe band. It was there she met her future husband, beginning a partnership that would shape the rest of her life.
A Wavell Heights Fixture: Gardening, Golf, and Giving Back
The couple later bought a block of land in Wavell Heights and built the home Ruby still lives in today. Although her husband sadly passed away in 2009, the house remains full of memories of their life together.
Ruby raised two children, Greg and Leonie. Greg passed away in 1995, and Leonie now helps care for her mother. Ruby’s family has since grown to include seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
An active woman for much of her life, Ruby loved gardening and once maintained a beautiful garden at her home. She also played golf for many years at the Virginia Golf Club, even scoring a memorable hole-in-one.
Ruby has also been a long-time supporter of the Kedron-Wavell RSL Sub Branch, proudly volunteering her time to sell badges and raise money for charity.
