Step into the world of Back to the Tivoli, a cabaret show where music, laughs, and daring stunts come together in a nostalgic variety experience.
The show returns to Kedron-Wavell on Monday, 20 April, hosted by award-winning vocalist Jenifer Green.
For the first time, Back to the Tivoli will feature cirque stuntman Joel Fenton. He said the audience could expect to see a “highly trained professional making extremely questionable life choices in front of them.”
“I love performing dangerous tricks,” Joel said. “I like people thinking something could go horribly wrong at any moment. I throw knives above my head, I swallow swords, I climb inside of a 10-foot latex balloon.
“It’s a variety show, so you never know what’s coming next. Sometimes a beautiful song, sometimes a funny sketch and sometimes a man juggling chainsaws and life insurance policies.”
He described Back to the Tivoli as “the closest you’ll get to an old-school vaudeville show from the last century”.
“The singers and musicians bring beautiful music and immense talent to the stage,” he said. “I bring an unbridled sense of chaos and energy where everyone suddenly sits forward in their seats thinking, ‘Wait, is he really going to do that?!’”
Singer and entertainer Renae Suttie will also join the line-up, having performed as a soloist at concerts including Side by Side with Sondheim and the Lord Mayor’s Seniors Cabaret, and supported artists such as Ian Moss, Kate Miller-Heidke, and Daryl Braithwaite.
Born and bred in Brisbane, Renae said it was always lovely to touch base with local audiences again.
“The main motivation behind my performing is community and connecting with people through music,” she said. “Nothing beats sharing joy, happiness and love through song and I am so grateful for this wonderful opportunity.
“Apart from the glitz and glamour of this prestigious show, one of the wonderful rewards of working in a variety show is the chance to meet performers who I haven’t yet crossed paths with. There’s a special camaraderie in the music industry…and I look forward to working with this incredible cast of talented artists.”
She added that the audience could expect to hear her perform one of the most special songs from her childhood, Close to You, by The Carpenters.
“I so enjoy sharing the love and happiness of this song with audiences who usually join in and sing along too,” she said.
A Star-Studded Line-Up of Music and Tribute Acts
