Australian music legend Adam Harvey is preparing to deliver an afternoon of classic country tunes, anecdotes and laughter.

As part of his national tour celebrating the release of his 17th studio album, Let the Song Take You Home, Adam will take the stage at Kedron-Wavell next month.

He said it felt “pretty crazy” to talk about making seventeen albums.

“It seems like yesterday I was dreaming about making one album,” he said. “And now the fun starts. I get to go on tour and play these songs live. And the only person more excited about going on tour than I am is my wife. She is counting down the days until she gets me out of the house!”

At the show, Adam said he planned to play a mix of new tracks and classics, with a solo segment dedicated to audience requests.

“I have this motto that no one should leave without hearing their favourite song,” he said. “Plus, I’ve got plenty of funny new stories about my kids and the family in general.

“If I can get the crowd to have a great time, have a singalong and a good laugh and escape from all the doom and gloom out there in the world, then I am doing my job!”

He said the inspiration for his latest album comes from “real life” experience.

“There is a track on this new album called Sail Away, which is an old Kenny Rogers song,” he said. “It was actually my dad’s favourite song, and whenever I hear that, it takes me back to our childhood home on a Sunday morning with dad cooking breakfast for us kids while singing that song at the top of his voice.

“But my very favourite song, and I believe the best song I have ever written, is about my mum who is suffering from dementia. The song is called Remember Me and it’s about my mum forgetting she has a son.”

Adam’s local ties make performing at Kedron-Wavell especially meaningful for him.

“The Harvey clan originally came from Cribb Island and when that was bulldozed to build the Brisbane airport, the Harveys were moved to Chermside and Redcliffe,” he said. “It’s always great to catch up with the relations at that venue.”

Adam will be supported by Gold Coast country music singer-songwriter Chloe Styler.

Tickets are $43 (members), $48 (non-members) and $25 (children). To book, go to Kedron-Wavell website.
