As one of Australia’s leading cardiology hospitals and hosting one of Queensland’s busiest Children’s Emergency Departments, The Prince Charles Hospital in Chermside helps tens of thousands of people in need every month.

This year’s Giving Day on Wednesday, 23 October offers a chance for the community to show their support for the hospital through donations aimed at enhancing patient care.

Chloe Nguyen, General Manager of Communications, Marketing and Engagement at The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation, said there were more than 500,000 instances of care each year at the hospital, with demand continuing to grow.

“Giving Day is the community’s chance to show their appreciation for the wonderful care and compassion they may have received at The Prince Charles Hospital,” she said.

“Whether it’s injury, illness or in case of emergency, there’s great comfort in knowing that The Prince Charles Hospital is there for the community in their time of need.”

Over the past three years, Giving Day has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars and this year’s target is $150,000.

“Every donation from our incredible community makes a difference, and this year, we’re hoping that through the generosity of the community, we can expand the hospital’s Child Life Therapy service, a service that helps over 2,000 of the hospital’s littlest of patients each year,” Chloe said.

Child Life Therapists use play-based interventions to reduce fear and anxiety in children, improving their experience in clinical environments. The hospital hopes to expand its Child Life Therapist program by funding an additional therapist.

Previous Giving Days have helped fund projects including an intergenerational play program, therapy dog visits, a sensory garden in the dementia ward and a ‘Sky Garden’ area for bed-bound patients to enjoy sunlight.

Last year, the funds contributed to supporting sick and injured children, resources for the Child Life Therapist, a sensory trolley for neurodiverse children and a children’s retreat space.

To maximise the impact of donations, supporters will match contributions made on or before 23 October. Donate online via www.thecommongood.org.au
