The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation is marking its 40-year milestone with a series of events and initiatives planned throughout 2026.
The milestone was launched last month with the opening of a new rehabilitation pathway developed in partnership with The Prince Charles Hospital. The pathway is designed to help patients working with allied health professionals practise real-life mobility skills and regain independence.
The Foundation’s Chief Executive Officer, Steve Francia, said that the 40-year milestone was as much about gratitude as it was about progress.
“For 40 years, the community has stood alongside The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation, helping to turn compassion into tangible outcomes for patients and families,” Mr Francia said. “This milestone is a moment to reflect on what has been achieved together, but also to look ahead to what’s possible when people continue to come together for the common good.”
Jacaranda Gala and a Legacy of Healthcare Innovation
As part of its anniversary program, the Foundation is also inviting the community to attend a black-tie Jacaranda Gala to be held on Saturday, 16 May at The Star Brisbane. The event will be the Foundation’s first major gala in more than 15 years.
Inspired by the iconic jacaranda trees that have stood alongside The Prince Charles Hospital for many years, the Jacaranda Gala will include a food and beverage package, entertainment, raffles, and auctions. Proceeds from the event will support research, equipment and patient-care initiatives across The Prince Charles Hospital and Caboolture Hospital.
“The year-long celebrations are designed to show our gratitude for past generosity and to inspire continued support and connection,” Mr Francia said.
“This is not just reflection, it’s an invitation for our community to feel proud of what they’ve helped build and to be part of shaping the next 40 years of research, patient care and ultimately hope.”
Since 1986, the Foundation has contributed more than $78 million to adult and paediatric healthcare across Queensland, including funding more than 1000 research grants in areas such as advanced 3D cardiac imaging, alternatives to heart and lung transplantation, new treatments for heart and lung disease, and an Australian-first silicosis screening trial using breath samples.
The Foundation has also supported patient care initiatives at The Prince Charles Hospital, including Queensland’s first Child Life Therapy program in a public hospital emergency department, Charlie’s Village for patients with dementia, and programs aimed at improving patient comfort, dignity and wellbeing.
The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation’s 40-year celebrations will continue throughout 2026, with further announcements to come. Find more information here.
